Fascial Approaches:  The Pelvis

The pelvis is the foundation of the body. It is subject to many shifts and changes over time (like the foundation of your house) which can have a profound effect on other body regions. Structurally, if the pelvic foundation becomes unreliable, stability is compromised in more than one area.

Symptoms arise as the fascia of the body (acting like guy wires of support) tries to compensate for this misalignment. Once this process of compensation starts happening, the muscles and fascia will try to ‘right the ship’ by means of tightening down and starting to put abnormal strains and stresses into the system.

Effectively treating these structures is essential for restructuring and stabilizing a healthy body. I have yet to see a patient that does not require treatment to align the pelvis back to its neutral position. Once achieved, the body will ease its tension in all other areas, and start relieving symptoms.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
*How to assess for pelvic imbalances
*To understand the relationship between muscle imbalances around the pelvis and their role in creating symptoms
*How to put an appropriate treatment plan together to treat pelvic imbalances
*Hands-on practice & assistance treating pelvic imbalances
*Stretches to isolate specific muscles and their coinciding fascia

Manual Skills Accelerator

Date: April 23, 2017 or April 30, 2017
Time: 8:00am – 5:00pm
Cost: $225
CEU’s: 8 primary
A one-day seminar designed to assist and empower practitioners in developing confident manual application skills. Therapists will develop a hands-on sensitivity to acute shifts in soft tissue tone that happen frequently during treatments. The framework for this skill development will utilize the concept of “Qualitative Palpation” as a means of connecting what is felt underhand with specific soft tissue mechanisms of control and protection governed by the Autonomic Nervous System.
The focus of this seminar will be to enhance the acuity of the therapist’s mental imagery of what is being felt and to connect what is felt with an advanced ability to use the patient’s nervous system as a map to improved treatment outcomes and reduced physical strain on the therapist. Ultimately, working Smarter, not Harder!

Course Enrolment Limited to 10 Participants

Location: Accel Physiotherapy & Sport Performance Centre – Dartmouth – 137 Venture Run, Burnside Business Park

Fascial Approaches:  Shoulder

The shoulder joint, is the most flexible joint in the body. It is surrounded and influenced by over a dozen muscles which allow it the greatest ranges of motion possible of any joint of the body. When the integrity of this joint is affected by trauma, most of these muscles and their associated fascia will respond by creating excessive tensile forces to protect this area from any further harm. Upper trapezius and levator scapula muscles when they are stressed by physical, mental and emotional trauma as well as posture can take on a seemingly solidified texture.

Join us in exploring how to assess and treat this area using fascial techniques and exercises to bring about release to the muscles and fascia of the shoulder region.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
*How to assess for shoulder imbalances
*Understanding the relationships that the muscles of the shoulder region have with each other and their role in the imbalance
*How to address the fascial tension of the anterior and posterior upper body
*Fascial treatment for specific musculature
*How to put an effective treatment plan together to treat the shoulder region and surrounding tissue
*Hands on techniques and practice to treat the shoulder region
*Stretches to isolate specific muscles and their coinciding fascia

Discover how to lengthen and balance the entire body, using powerful techniques from the tradition of Dr. Ida P. Rolf. This two-day workshop provides an intensive immersion into connective tissue manipulation. Over the two days you will learn specific techniques to address myofascial imbalances in the neck, shoulder girdles, rib cage, back, pelvis, and legs. The learning methodology balances theory, extensive practice, and plenty of one to one mentoring with the instructor.

Workshop Highlights

-Learn to work with balanced, effective body mechanics, giving you
more power and endurance in your practice.
-Learn a three-session protocol that will re-balance the entire structure
with gravity.
-Discover how to work in connective tissues rather than just on them.
-Develop a felt sense for deep connective tissue work.

About the Instructor

Craig Mollins graduated in 1995 from the Guild for Structural Integration, where he studied with two of Dr. Rolf’s principle students. Craig has extensive training and practice in yoga, tai chi, and qi gong, and has studied various movement modalities including Authentic Movement, Continuum, and Rolf Movement training with Dorthee Nolte.

Since 1982 Craig has been a student of Buddhist mediation, and practices meditation on a daily basis. Guasha course for Health Practitioners

Guasha therapy is a branch of Chinese Medicine, an ancient system of healing that offers great wisdom and practical medicine for modern illnesses and imbalances. Under the direction of Dr. Fronie Leroy, OMD, PhD, I have studied and condensed some of the main attributes of guasha therapy as it relates to bodywork and healing and our scope of practice. With some basic knowledge and tools, guasha therapy can be incorporated into both a hands on therapy session, or an energetic (ie, Reiki) therapy session, to enhance and broaden your offerings and skill set. Guasha tools are made from different materials, each with their own energetic imprint (stone, animal horn, wood, resin, shells), and the oils can include many therapeutic herbs. The techniques taught in level 1 and 2 Guasha therapy, are easy to learn, and can be incorporated right away into your treatments. Traditionally, guasha therapy, can be an intense and sometimes painful treatment. However, this does not have to be the case, as there are many traditional ways to use guasha in a gentle and balancing way that can also be very powerful. Balancing Yin and Yang energies, using sacred geometries, the five elements, and many other Chinese Medicine theories, the therapist can create healing on many levels for their clients.
In this unique take on a traditional therapy, we will be looking at both traditional guasha therapy and then blending this with energetic and intuitive techniques.
Cost: for both levels (3 hours each) would be $230 including HST, tools, oil and binder (level 1 only is $172.50)
Date: Saturday July 15th, 2017
Time: 9:30-12:30 level 1 and 1:30 to 4:30 level 2
Location: Inner Waves Centre, suite 635, 5991 Spring Garden Road, Halifax
Facilitator and contact: Ailsa Keppie (902-489-5320 ailsakeppie@gmail.com)
